Oxford Indonesian Students Association Statement on Palestinian Liberation
7 June 2024
We, members of the Oxford Indonesian Students Association, stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and we condemn the attacks in Gaza that have resulted in people suffering and an increasing number of civilian casualties, including women and children.
We cannot view the recent actions of Palestinian liberation in isolation. As reported by the United Nations, Palestinians in Gaza live in an open-air prison that lacks necessities such as food, clean water, medicine, and electricity after enduring an inhumane siege for 16 years. There are currently more than 35 thousand Palestinians in Gaza being killed since 7 October 2023, with approximately 70% of them being women and children. Both international courts, ICJ and ICC, have responded to halt the attack and stop the act of war crimes in the Gaza Strip. We will not stay silent while civilian casualties continue to count, witnessing the ongoing injustices against the Palestinian people.
We are here to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to stand with Palestine, and we urge for justice and dignity to be restored for the Palestinian people. We must continue to reiterate our call for peace and urgent appeal for a ceasefire.
We hope that the University of Oxford will extend its support and solidarity to those who continue to fight against injustice and occupation today, particularly in the case of Palestine. We believe that standing in solidarity with the oppressed is not only a moral imperative but also a necessary step towards building a more just and equitable world.
Palestina, Merdeka!
